Know my Story –

Long back in 1700s, there were hardly 3to5 types of stones commonly who had a name, those who were not Ruby or Sapphire were known as “turamali” Sinhalese name for those stones who had mixed colors. It was originally found in Sri Lanka by Dutch people and then science grew and stones were given names as a variety of Gems were then begun to arise, therefore “turamali” became “TOURMALINE”.

Tourmaline is found throughout the world such as in US, Brazil, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, Russia, Burma, and Mozambique.

Talking about its constituents, it is a boron silicate crystal mineral compound. It is rich in many other minerals such as aluminium and potassium.

How different Tourmaline is from others is this one fact that Tourmaline is distinguished by its three-sided prisms; no other common mineral has three sides.

How Colorful I am with Uses and Quality –

Tourmaline comes in amazingly beautiful yet variety of color range, it could be bi-color too and somehow pinkish pink too. Range of colors are white, colorless blue, red, green, yellow, orange, brown, pink, purple, grey, black and multicolored too. Its hardness varies between 7- 7.5 on Mohs scale and refractive index is 1.616- 1.650. Another specialty about this Tourmaline is when it is viewed from different angles; their different color tends to reflect which makes them more unique. Paraiba being the most prized solid-colored Tourmaline. it can cost $7,500 per carat. Chrome Tourmalines, Rubellites and fine indicolite and bi-colors may sell for as much as $1000/carat. The most selling Tourmaline is Paraiba which is neon blue and quite very rare too. Goodness should be kept closer wherever you go and wherever you can, so keeping it near to you, Tourmaline is used in pendants, rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and what not.
